Getting Real About Pagan Super Heroes

This morning I awoke to the Internet abuzz with statements of support and appreciation for my recent efforts to engage those who spread false information about our community.  While I am humbled to receive such accolades I do believe that most of the commentary misses the mark.

Being engaged as a, on the ground, operational asset has brought me into ever closer contact with Selena Fox,  the Executive Director to the Lady Liberty League.  Selena and I have known each other for a number of years, but my recent contacts have left me in awe of her practiced ability to focus positive intention, community resources and most notably a deep well of wisdom on effective action.

Selena is a modern day Pagan Super Hero.  Time and time again her wise council has lead me to engage in ways that I would never have imagined.  When following her recommendations’, I feel almost as though the Goddess speaks through me in my actions.  It is almost impossible to describe how effective she is in support of our community.

For more than 25 years Selena has blazed a path to Pagan rights and focused an entire generation on meaningful, measured and compassioned-based activism.

During recent events, I have learned how extensive her web of resources is.  Lady Liberty League’s effective engagement is a result of many individuals doing research, public information, logistics, social media management, pastoral care, intra religious dialogue, and education.  All these people brought together by the warmth of the flame of justice that burns within Selena.

I do Leadership in stressful situations for a living and have engaged with the best leaders our nation has to offer in both local and international operations.  Frankly I have never engaged with someone before who manifests so effectively what I consider to be leadership skills.

I am not writing this to heap praise upon her ego, she does not need such praise. I believe her light and energy in support of our community rights burns independent of her personal emotional self.   I am writing this because I am awash with gratitude for her effective love, support and wisdom that empowers so many to make a difference in the world.

I have met many heroes in my life; even personally witnessed some give their lives in support of their beliefs.  Almost always these individuals are regular people who just believe in something. Their actions are burned in a particular point of history.  Selena however, is exceptional; Super Heroes appear again and again when a community is in need.  For more than 25 years Selena has been our community Super Hero, it’s time we recognize her as such.

Selena, you are the inspiration of the Lady Liberty League, our own group of activists in support of your heroic vision. If there were a “Pagan medal of freedom” I would present to you personally.

I prefer to think of Selena, simply, as a Goddess. She is such an inspiration!

I am newly acquainted with Selena's works and reputation. Indeed, she has carried the torch for Pagans, blazing a path and enlightening others as she forges on. The Divine is evident in her actions...blessed be. So mote it be.

Yes. Selena deserves more than she knows... it is folks in our community who lead such as she has that is the Goddess manifest here on this planet... thanks to Selena!!!

To be in the public is to be criticized. And Selena has been in the public a great many years. I am sure she has her faults as we all do, but at the same time I know of no one that has put more of her time in serving the Pagan community. She has been at this a lot longer than most of us. Circle Sanctuary was my first contact with the Pagan community, Circle Network News was then only my link, but it was the first place that started out as a writer and that would lead to articles and finally a newsletter for AREN.
She and the several different organizations she has founded have out survived so many other organizations and survival of Pagan organizations seems rare at best. I have always found her an easy person to work with on those occasions that I have worked with long distances on various projects.
