Warriors, an archetype that stirs the imagination, visions
of sabers, battle, conquest, fighting the good fight and defending all we hold
sacred. The warrior ethic resonates deeply with those seeking to
establish community. After all, the warriors have all the flashy adornments.
As our sense of community evolves it is apparent that
warriors of another type have come to defend and even establish what we hold
sacred. These are the warriors of the plow, the spoon, the protest and activism. While they may not brandish swords or
engage in traditional battle they are My
Heroes.
Pagans living sustainably, creating communities that reflect
an environmental ethic, engage shovels, sweat and the tilling of the land as
their weapons of choice in a battle that may influence the very destiny of man
kind. My Heroes
Those feeding the hungry, engage the simple spoon as a
weapon with the power to end hunger, nourish community and establish that we
are a one human family. My Heroes
Standing in the streets our new army thrust signs forward
that proclaim Social Justice, in all its forms, as the only reasonable course of action. They risk arrest,
loss of jobs and their own safety in defense of the basic human principle of
freedom and justice. My Heroes!
Around the world members of our community are working to
provide service to communities in need. From the Peace Corps to those working
to respond to famine in the third world, these individuals wield knowledge in
their war on human suffering, My Heroes!
Much has been said recently about the warrior ethic, photos
abound of individuals dressed for battle, my their intent be to join the
warriors referenced above. The
clothing of a warrior does not make a warrior; it is the battles they fight
that define them.

Breaking the psychic linkage between warriors and soldiers is critical to reclaiming the archetype.

Exactly this. There's a difference between the warrior and the knight/soldier and heroes exist in both camps for sure. But deciding which camp to be in can be tricky if you're not aware of the differences between the two.
