A Pagan Dream
This post was going to start with my dream, an expression of
what I would like to do with my life in support of my community, our planet and
social justice. It strikes me that it is beyond my ability to achieve this
dream, but I think it is important that it weighs so heavily on my mind.
You see my dream is to be free, able to engage my few
talents in advocacy for our community, immerse myself in fighting for causes
that matter, free from the constructs of economic reality and the need to feed
and shelter myself.
Sadly the ability to achieve my dream alone remains out of
my reach. What would happen, however, if this dream became a cooperative
effort; if dozens of Pagans around the world committed to setting aside one
week of the year to lobby, protest and advocate in ways that support this
dream?
Each small community could support these efforts; essentially
fund the efforts of their local person committing to this effort. Pagans
roaming the halls of congress and state legislatures, on the front lines of
environmental protests, feeding the hungry, standing up to injustice, yes I have a dream!
As I process this dream it occurs to me that I am already living
it in a cooperative manor. Pagans are doing these things, successes abound in
our efforts to support causes that matter. Being
part of this community is achieving the dream of a lifetime. In you, my fellow community members, I
am able to live a life that matters, makes a difference and heals the wrongs of
the world.
So today I just want to say Thank You to all the activists, fighting the good fight. In your
hands my dream is manifested. In your efforts we all move toward a future that
is sustainable with economic, social and environmental justice. I am humbled to
be in your company contributing as I can to the cooperative dream.
